PWWA Communications Officer

Role purpose
The Communications Officer supports the Pacific Water and Waterwaste Assocation (PWWA) to deliver clear, consistent, and inclusive communications that build regional visibility, strengthen member and partner engagement, and showcase impact across the Pacific water and wastewater sector. The role is designed as an entry-level position with room to grow. supported by coaching and mentoring from the PWWA Communications Consultant, particularly through planning and delivery of the Pacific Water and Wastewater Conference and Expo 2026 (PWWC2026).

Key focus areas

Deliver regular, high-quality content across PWWA’s primary channels (website, Facebook, LinkedIn) and coordinate emerging channels (e-newsletter, YouTube, webinars, media).

· Implement the Communications Strategy objectives through practical plans, editorial calendars, and consistent storytelling.

· Maintain the Communications MEL framework: track performance, document insights, and provide quarterly reflections to support learning and improvement.

· Plan and deliver annual conference communications (pre, during, post), working closely with the Secretariat and conference host teams.

· Ensure communications reflect GEDSI values through inclusive language, diverse representation, and accessibility.

Core responsibilities

1) Content planning and publishing
• Develop and maintain a monthly editorial and events content calendar.
• Draft, edit, and publish platform-appropriate content.
• Coordinate content contributions from members, partners, and YWPs.
• Maintain an organised digital content archive.

5) Donor and partner communications
• Support quarterly impact updates.
• Coordinate evidence for reporting.
• Assist with engagement activities.

2) Social media management
• Publish content consistently and engage professionally.
• Use basic analytics to guide content performance.
• Support PWWA and PWWC campaigns.

6) Conference communications
• Support conference visibility planning.
• Prepare communications materials.
• Support live coverage and post-event storytelling.

3) Website and digital presence
• Maintain regular website updates.
• Coordinate with website support providers.
• Ensure content is clear, accurate, and mobile-friendly.

7) MEL and continuous improvement
• Track agreed indicators.
• Prepare short quarterly reflections.
• Support annual review inputs.

4) Media and external relations
• Draft media materials and support approvals.
• Maintain a simple media contact list.
• Support partner recognition and branding.

Key Selection Criteria

Required skills

Qualifications and experience

• Strong writing and editing skills.

• Relevant qualification or equivalent experience.

• Confidence using social media platforms.

• Minimum 2 years’ experience (internships/volunteer work welcomed).

• Familiarity with basic design tools.

• Photo/video skills are an advantage.

• Strong organisation and follow-through.

Employment Term
Permanent, Salary Band A9/L9: SAT $24,610 – $27,550
